First Last2025-03-24Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My Swiss SIG P210’s pistol barrel hood became chemically stained from leaving old oil on it overnight. The ugly staining covered part of the P210's serial number on the barrel hood. The stains could not be removed with Gunscrubber and using a bench wire wheel. Worse yet, the wire wheel removed part of the serial number. I talked with Devin Coleman, Custom Shop's manager, and Devin was professional and personable and very detailed. Using their computer scanning process, the process copied the data from the barrel hood exactly and stored it to a graphic file; logo, font, size, etc. To test the laser process of burning the data back onto steel, they used bar stock. Three tests were performed. The third test proved perfect reproducing the data exactly as original and in the precise positioning on the barrel hood. Next, Custom Shop removed a couple of thousandths of an inch of the barrel hood’s surface to remove the stains including the original data. It’s not ‘removing’ surface material, really, it’s more ‘abrasion’ being that so very little surface metal is involved. Finally, their computer laser process burned in the data exactly from the stored graphic file, and in precisely the same position on the barrel hood where it originally was. Custom Shop then satin finished the entire barrel and it looks absolutely gorgeous. Devin feels the barrel now looks better than original. I agree. Being the barrel now looks better than factory, the barrel back in the gun makes the whole gun look fancy, bespoke. The Custom Shop’s business name is rather apropos. They are a custom shop and are far more. The Custom Shop Inc. Highly recommended. A+++++ Jacob Rough2025-03-11Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Visited the Shop to buy a gun for my Father. Devin, Louie, and Louie Jr. Were all awesome help and great to talk to. The shop itself is full of history and some of the finest gunsmithing work you will ever see. The shop is by appointment only, so be prepared to call ahead and give a few days notice if you see something on their website you're interested in and want to see it in person before purchasing. A previous owner had Cera coated the entire gun. Some engraving was almost completely worn away. I thought of just having it re-blued. But, after watching an episode of Gunfather, I decided to talk to them first. I ordered the letter from Colt Archives, then sent both off to The Custom Shop. I received a call from Devin, and after our talk I decided to have a complete restoration done to bring it back to what it was originally. When I got it in my hands, it shone like a Diamond. The work they did is beyond words. I work a couple days per week in a local gun store where the Colt was shipped to. The crew at the store were amazed when we opened the box and pulled the little Pocket pistol out. The Custom shop was easy to work with, and very helpful through the entire process. I plan on stopping in on my way to fish the Bitterroot River in Montana. I highly recommend the Custom Shop Paula Xavier2024-12-26Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. They did an absolutely, outstanding restoration of our 1877 Colt Lightning. It’s probably better than first manufactured. Unbelievable customer service you don’t experience today. Highly recommend. I shipped my gun & promptly received a detailed estimate & authorized the work. Wow - incredible attention to detail & 100% period correct. Work done relatively quickly compared to several nationally known shops which have worked on a variety of firearms for me. Highly recommend if you want excellence. Very pleased with how well they kept me notified through the whole process. Nice to actually get a person on the phone when you call. The gun came back way beyond my expectations and I highly recommend the custom shop to anybody looking to restore or work on a firearm. Thanks again! Louie, Devin and team did a fabulous job restoring my 1916 Colt Police Positive that was handed down from my grandfather. Customer service was excellent and work product was even better. Can't say enough good things! Michael Caprata2024-11-22Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My wife and I stopped by the shop in August 2024. I wanted to get an estimate on refinishing a 1933 vintage Smith and Wesson 2nd Model Hand Ejector. After a delightful visit and tour with Devin and the staff we decided to leave the revolver to get an estimate. A couple days later we got a written estimate via email. We gave them the go ahead to proceed. The finished project was fantastic. We could not have been any happier with the work and service. I would not hesitate to use the services of The Custom Shop Inc again.
